Bring Me The Horizon's Matt Nicholls Will Miss Upcoming Tour

Bring Me The Horizon drummer Matt Nicholls has posted the following update online, detailing the injury of a broken hand suffered during a game of soccer with members of Parkway Drive and Architects. Architects drummer Dan Searle will be temporarily filling in for Nicholls for the remainder of the band's tour dates.

"It were a lovely day so members of BMTH, Parkway Drive and Architects decided to play footy and I made the stupid mistake of going in the net. The ball came to me and I knocked it away with my hands and Winston from Parkway Drive clipped my hand with his foot and there you have it, one broken hand.

"I have to see a specialist in Sheffield to see if I need surgery or not but I’m not gonna be picking up drum sticks for about 6 weeks. It was an accident and you know, shit happens but I’ll tell you now, it’s the last time I wear gardening gloves in the net!"

During a tour, Bring Me the Horizon and Architects filmed a video showing a staged fight between Oliver Sykes and Architects' lead singer Sam Carter. The video was uploaded to YouTube and outraged many Bring Me the Horizon fans, causing many to send hate mail towards Carter, who later made it clear in an interview with Kerrang! that the whole thing was a joke, as did Sykes

Slipknot talks New Album & Forthcoming Concerts

You can view the video interview in the player below.

Throughout their career, Slipknot have developed their image; changing their uniforms and each member's mask accordingly with the release of each album. The masks do not differ drastically in appearance between albums and follow a similar style but with new elements. Drummer Jordison addressed the issue in an interview in 2004, stating that it is to show growth and difference within age in each individual.

All Shall Perish announce This Is Where It Ends as their fourth album

California extreme metallers, All Shall Perish, have announced "This Is Where It Ends" as the title of their fourth full-length and follow-up to 2008 release "Awaken the Dreamers." The majority of "This Is Where It Ends" was recorded and mixed at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland with producer Zack Ohren (Light This City, Decrepit Birth). Look for the album on sale both physically and digitally on July 26th (North America) and July 29th (Europe) via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band's playing style consists of fast paced, heavily palm-muted power chords in the rhythm section, and higher octave runs in the lead section. The percussion section consists mainly of heavy double bass-pedaling, and often rapid sections of snare drum, until the song comes to the breakdown. The breakdowns add splash cymbal and china cymbal to the mix, with quick bursts on the double bass. The vocals of the band use the false chord-screaming technique, a few earlier All Shall Perish songs feature inhaled pig squeal vocals.

Rock music is Saving Books?

From Keith Richards’ assertion that he really did snort his father’s ashes to Sammy Hagar’s revelation that he’s been abducted by aliens, out-there autobiographies by aging rock stars are helping to fuel the ailing book-publishing business.

“There’s clearly a demand,” says Mauro DiPreta, vp of It Books, which published Hagar’s current New York Times best-seller “Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock.” The former Van Halen frontman was paid about $3 million (Richards pocketed a reported $7 million for his memoir, “Life”).

K.K. Downing Retires From Judas Priest!

Judas Priest have announced that KK Downing, one of the founding members of the band, has decided to retire from the group and as a result, will not be taking part in the group's forthcoming Epitath tour. A press release from the band reads as follows:

"It is with regret that Judas Priest announce that K.K. Downing has formally retired from the band and will therefore not be joining them on their forthcoming Epitaph Tour. The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well.

"Having thought long and hard about how to proceed, Rob, Glenn, Ian and Scott uninimously agreed that they should go ahead with the tour and not let the fans down around the world.

"Fate also stepped in and delivered the perfect replacement - 31 year old British guitarist Richie Faulkner - he has blended into the band perfectly and is a great talent who is going to set the stage on fire!

"The Epitath tour will include songs from every Judas Priest album and also tracks they have never performed on stage, plus all the old favourites!

Downing officially retired from Judas Priest on April 20th 2011. An official press release was issued by the band. The band decided to continue on with a replacement for Downing. Kenneth Keith "K. K." Downing, Jr. was born on 27 October 1951 in Yew Tree Estate in West Bromwich, England.

Linkin Park's Iridescent will appear in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Speaking to MTV News, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park said, "The Transformers collaboration has been really fun for us. I mean, we grew up playing with the toys," Shinoda explained. "When we first got approached on the first one, we said yes based on the idea of taking that thing that we loved so much and bringing it to life in a modern way. As it's gone on, that's still a big part of it for us."

As opposed to the heftier sound of their first two Transformers songs, "Iridescent" is a more contemplative, hopeful ballad. "We put out the record in the late part of last year and even though it's never been a single up until this point, [when we played it live] you could really hear the singing pick up momentum during that song. It was just something that seemed a natural fit," says Shinoda.

He added, "We loved that part of it when we were in the studio, but Michael actually loved pairing it with the movie because there's something that he feels it speaks to about the story line." Transformers: Dark Of The Moon will arrive in theaters on July 1. A release date for the soundtrack has yet to be announced.

Zakk Wylde On American Idol

Black Label Society frontman and former Ozzy Osbourne sidekick Zakk Wylde has explained why he appeared on a recent episode of the hit reality show, American Idol. Speaking to USA Today, Wylde claims it was professional wrestler and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho who set up his appearance, stating:

"Father Jericho called me up," says the Black Label Society founder. "He's on Dancing With the Stars, so we've been busting his balls about that." According to Wylde, James asked Jericho to make the call on his behalf.

"It was that easy," Wylde says. "I was, like, yeah, no problem. Then the American Idol people gave me the song to learn. Sammy Hagar, no problem. I bought it from iTunes: off and running." Read the full article at USA Today.

Foo Fighters - Back And Forth Review

It was almost a homecoming of sorts for the Foo Fighters, as the band returned to The Late Show with David Letterman to launch their new album, “Wasting Light," on the day of its release. Letterman has previously praised the Foos as his favorite band; one of the group’s most memorable visits to the show was when David personally requested they play at his first show back following his quintuple bypass surgery in 2000. Letterman later revealed that that the Foos had been in the middle of a South American tour, which they canceled to play on his comeback episode. Following the Tuesday Letterman show taping, the band played a 90-minute webcast as part of the Live On Letterman series.

Dave Grohl isn’t your typical musician. He takes frequent recording breaks to swim with his daughter. He randomly appears in Saturday Night Live sketches and rambles about his love for Top Chef on stage. There’s a likeable, engaging personality behind the Foo Fighters’ frontman. Unfortunately, it’s that same affable demeanor that has led so many critics to write his band off as merely above average. Foo Fighters: Back And Forth plays like a savage indictment of those unfair accusations. True, Grohl appears throughout as his exuberant, optimistic and joyous self, but that easy to digest nature is beset by a sometimes vicious taskmaster whose determination once drove his own drummer out of the band and a strict perfectionist who chose to play every single instrument on the Foo Fighters’ first self-titled release save one guitar solo. It’s that seeming contradiction that makes Grohl both a reliable family man and a musician endlessly struggling. In the end, he may not be Kurt Cobain, but Back And Forth makes it clear he’d rather be Dave Grohl. I would too.

There are few frills or camera tricks to James Moll’s documentary on one of the more successful rock bands of the last two decades, but with the entire group of both current and former members willing to open up, the excess glitz and glamour isn’t needed. There’s enough drama, intrigue, redemption and sorrow afloat that any manufactured excess or post-production sheen would have gilded the lily. To paraphrase Grohl, nearly every famous band goes through a period of awful and embarrassing growing pains, the only difference is the Foo Fighters’ missteps occurred almost entirely in the public eye.

The first of those missteps happened almost immediately after the band’s formation, and it works as a wonderful window both into the personalities of the individual Foos and into why Back And Forth is such a riveting documentary. Enlisting former Nirvana second guitarist and Germs founder Pat Smear as well as the entire rhythm section from Seattle based Sunny Day Real Estate, Grohl never felt entirely comfortable with his new drummer William Goldsmith. How could he? Grohl was/ is one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time. It only seemed natural for him to look over Goldsmith’s shoulders, but after it became apparent Grohl was secretly re-recording the drum tracks on the band’s second album The Colour And The Shape, Pat Smear confronted his buddy and bassist Nate Mendel phoned Goldsmith. Looking back, Grohl is clearly shaken by the whole thing. He calls his own actions “fucked up”. It’s a catch-22. He knows he did the right thing for the band. Kurt Cobain himself jettisoned five drummers from Nirvana before the recording of Nevermind, but Grohl never wanted to be that guy. As he recollects and almost resorts to tears, he proves in many ways he’s not fit to be that guy even if sometimes, for the Foo Fighters he begrudgingly has to be.

Foo Fighters: Back And Forth has no hypothesis or thoughts on legacy. It has no stance on whether Goldsmith should have been kicked out of the band or whether any of the several line-up changes were handled correctly. It just listens to seven current and former members spill their hopes and inadequacies. All have a story to tell. In the words of Grohl, sometimes it is “fucked up”, but in the grand scheme of things, as the Foos laugh and throw each other’s kids into the pool, there are few band I’d rather be a part of. They’re not Nirvana, but that was never the goal. Source: cinemablend.com

Travis Barker: Blink 182 reunification is really well

Currently on the road with Lil Wayne to promote his first solo album, "Give the Drummer Some," Travis Barker predicts he'll do another record of his own -- but that might not be for a while with new blink-182 and Transplants projects on the horizon.

"They're all very different," Barker tells Billboard.com about his assorted activities. "It's easy for me to separate them. When I was finishing my album, I was starting on the blink album, starting on a Transplants record, but they're separate and all three are so different that it was really easy to go in and write for each of them...nothing was sounding similar." Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Leaves Slayer

Slayer guitarist and co-founding member Jeff Hanneman has announced that he has made the decision to leave the band, following his recent medical problems. A message from Hanneman reads as follows:

"In what is probably the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, I have decided to part company with Slayer. You can imagine how difficult this was for me to do, what with Slayer being such a big part of my life for like thirty years, but due to my problems with my arm, I’ve been left with little other option. I’d just like to say thank you so much to the guys for helping me a part of something so important and amazing, and also a huge thanks should go to you, the fans, for all the support you’ve given me over the years. Thanks again guys! You rule!" Read the full article on here.

Hanneman was born in Oakland, California to a family of war veterans; Hanneman’s father fought in Normandy during World War II and brothers in Vietnam, often talking about their experiences at dinner.
