Kings Of Leon slam Qantas Airways

Kings Of Leon's Nathan Followill has slammed Qantas Airways after the carrier's flight cancellations 'fucked up' the band's tour plans.

Flights from the Australian airline have remained grounded for a second day today (October 30) after a row between management and three of its unions over proposed job cuts.

This has forced the Followills to take diverted flights to reach their rescheduled gigs Down Under next week, something that has rankled the drummer.

Writing on his Twitter page, Twitter.com/doctorfollowill, the drummer said:

Dear Qantas, u suck, thanks 4 fucking up my trip 2 Oz. Joberg-Dubai-Sydney. 24 hours in the air. That's how much I love Oz.

The band played in Johannesburg, South Africa last night (29) and are due to kick off their Australian dates next Friday (November 4) at Sydney's Acer Arena, with shows in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth also pencilled in. NME.com

Steven Tyler loses teeth after bathroom fall

Steven Tyler Loses Teeth
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has reportedly broken two pearly whites from his iconic smile after falling in the shower. Tyler was forced to postpone a planned show in Paraguay while he went to the hospital and got stitches and emergency dental work.

So why did he fall in the bathtub? Some believed that Tyler was drugged up but the firm that organized the Paraguay gig says otherwise on Twitter. Tyler was apparently suffering from food poisoning, bad gastrointestinal problems, and dehydration. He reportedly slipped while taking a shower and his fall was extremely nasty.

“Thank you for all the love regarding my dad and his accident. He is recovering and doing much better. I will pass on all the well wishes,” his daughter Mia Tyler tweeted. “My dad takes a lickin but always keeps on tickin. Can't nothin bring down the Demon Of Screamin!”

U2 Revisit Achtung Baby

U2’s Achtung Baby is now acclaimed as U2’s finest achievement, but the 1991 album nearly didn’t get made. In fact, its beginnings nearly split the Irish band apart.

By the turn of the ’90s, U2 were at a crossroads. They were a major stadium act, but creatively they were faltering. The band had been stung by media criticism of their half studio/half live double album Rattle and Hum. That “toying” with Americana certainly delivered some hits (“Angel Of Harlem,” the Bo Diddley-esque “Desire,” the B.B. King duet “When Love Comes to Town”) but many found the album too much of a pastiche. U2 suddenly became the most loved/hated rock band on the planet. What to do? As Bono told a Dublin crowd in the late ’80s: “We have to go away and dream it all up again.”

As guitarist The Edge later reflected, the “traditionalism” of Rattle and Hum was the exception in the U2 canon. “My view,” he told this author in 1996 “is that Rattle and Hum, for all its traditionalism, is actually our “experimental” record. Achtung Baby got us back to our normality – making dark, very European music with experimental sounds.” Famously, U2 decided to impose new rules for Achtung Baby, the band’s rebirth.

Bono: “Buzzwords on this record were trashy, throwaway, dark, sexy and industrial (all good) and earnest, polite, sweet, righteous, rockist and linear (all bad).”

But the sessions, in Berlin’s Hansa Studios, nearly collapsed completely. U2 had booked Hansa hoping to capture the “greatness” of two of their favorite albums: David Bowie’s Low and “Heroes” that were recorded there. But when they turned up, they couldn’t even write a song. “The greatness,” Bono laughs on the new U2 documentary From The Sky Down, “had left the building.” Gibson.com

Coldplay - 'Mylo Xyloto' Review

It can’t be easy being Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, with so many critics working overtime to justify their contempt, picking apart his band’s words not for enjoyment but in a search for the cheesiest mixed metaphors, listening to melodies not for pleasure but to uncover the most obvious borrowed musical idea — “U.F.O.” sounds way too much like Big Star’s “Try Again,” for example — scouring every Hallmark-ian reference to nature, time passing and the struggles of life in a never-ending search for a chink in his (elegantly casual) armor.

It’s not going to get any easier for Martin and the rest of Coldplay after “Mylo Xyloto,” Album No. 5, which sees the most appealingly unoriginal band of the ’00s continuing on its path of least resistance by offering vague, neutral opening lines such as “Once upon a time somebody ran away.” That’s the first lyric of “Princess of China,” a song about fading love with telegraphed rhymes (“Once upon a time we burned bright/ Now all we ever seem to do is fight”) that read bland on the page and are rendered tiny and inconsequential when coupled with the heavily produced beat that surrounds them.

“Life goes on, it gets so heavy/ The wheel breaks the butterfly,” Martins sings repeatedly on “Paradise,” never fully connecting the butterfly, the wheel, or how one broke the other, while the rest of the band delivers just enough variation on the Coldplay template to protect themselves from charges of self-plagiarism.

The only thing Coldplay could do at this point to shake away its platitudinal reputation — besides never again rhyming the words “pain” with “rain,” as Martin does on “Up With the Birds” — would be to risk everything by kicking its singer out of the band and hiring Peaches or somehow resurrecting punk nihilist GG Allin from the grave. Of course, that’s not the band’s charge. Coldplay is an expert at pleasure or at least poking into pockets of emotion without disturbing anything too much. Every touch of lyrical bitterness is followed by enough sugar to mask the taste, which might be good in the short term but isn’t a recipe for long-term health.

Asking Alexandria - Not The American Average (Live Music Video) and Lyric

Asking Alexandria has posted a new live music video online for "Not The American Average," which was shot at Epicenter 2011 in Irvine, CA at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

Lyrics to Asking Alexandria - Not The American Average :
(1,2,3,4)
All the things that you said was it all in my head?

Come on baby
Keep it down, honey hush your lips
Clothes trailing from the backdoor to the bedroom
And I don’t even know your name

(Woo) Give me all you’ve got
Make this night worth my time
Make this worth my time

Oh what I would give to live this night again
I knew when I first saw you
You’d fuck like a whore
You’d fuck like a whore
Hope they hear you screaming for more

Your thighs were made for cheeks to graze
My lips, your poison
They bring you down to your knees
Your thighs were made for cheeks to graze
My lips, your poison
They bring you down to your knees

(Oh, come on)

Girl get down
It’s almost over
Take it all the way (Oh!)

You stupid fucking whore

And after all of all my dreaming being only you
You’re standing there baby
Oh the things that I could do
Back to the wall with a drink in my hand
Back it up, baby; ride, ride, ride

One step too late
And I never told you (never told you)
That I can't take another disappointment
Breathing and grasping
All leads to another messy ending
Breathing and grasping
All leads to another messy ending

With your back against the wall
With your face buried in the pillow
I see you cold, I feel you heartless

Bitch, you stupid fucking bitch
You stupid fucking bitch

Fucking bitch

Anthrax Guitarist Talks About Branding And Social Media

Tim Clark of Forbes.com recently conducted an interview with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Forbes.com: Like it or not, Anthrax is a brand. How do you protect and nurture it?

Scott: Branding is such a huge part of what we do which means protecting the brand at all costs. You could also say this is a baby we all have to take care of. That includes five guys in the band, management, our agent and the head of our record label. If one person misses a feeding a lot of shit will go wrong. If we do our job and write good songs then people are still going to want to be involved with us. We've played some of the biggest shows in our career, in the last two years, in places we've never been before. That really shows us how many people all over the world want to be involved in this brand.

Forbes.com: Does Anthrax use social media to stay in touch with fans?

Scott: I'd say social media is one of the few positives that the Internet has given the music business. Certainly Twitter is something I have embraced since I got into it a year ago. To be able to talk to people without a middle man… it's a great way for me to express myself. I think you get to know people a little bit better through Twitter. It's a really cool window into the world and a really great tool to market your band. I have about 60,000 followers on Twitter and ANTHRAX has about the same. It would be really interesting to know how many people found out about the new record because of us tweeting about it. I bet it's a pretty big percentage. You're able to motivate people directly. It doesn't take weeks for budgets to be approved, ads placed in magazines. Just go online and there's 60,000 people that want to hear what you have to say. View full post on Forbes.com

Fans of Motley Crue Scammed By Fake Concert Promoters in Indonesia

Motley Crue
Fans of the rock band Motley Crue have allegedly been scammed out of $60,000 (£37,900) by a fake concert promoter.

News site Tempo Interactive are reporting that more than 1,500 tickets were purchased for a non-existent show that had been billed as the band’s first ever gig in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Jakarta Globe newspaper had reported on September 21 that Motley Crue would be coming to Indonesia on October 8, causing fans to purchase tickets for $40 (£25) from music promoter MLive, until members of the band discredited the story.

MLive chief executive Astri Darmawanti has pledged that the company will refund all of the tickets sold, and that 100 customers have already been reimbursed. Astri, who also claimed that the show had been scheduled before the band cancelled the date, added: "I am now destroyed. This has turned into an attack against me personally.

Even those who didn’t buy the tickets are saying bad things. Astri said her company would return ticket buyers’ money in stages adding that all would be compensated by the end of October. Central Jakarta district police chief Lt. Col. Angesta Romano Yoyol said that some angry fans had already reported MLive management to the police for fraud. An investigation is ongoing but no suspects have been named.

Why Blink 182 New Album Took So Long to Make?

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker blamed tour burnout, saying: "You're playing shows every day and you're doing tour after tour like we were 10 years ago, and there's no communication. Everyone's burnt. The air was so thick around us back in the day you could cut it with a knife. It was so bad right before we broke up."

The drummer also said that, after Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge came to visit him in the days after his 2008 plane crash, they reconnected instantly, despite having not spoken for some time.

He added: When we look back now, after my crash when Tom and Mark finally came to my house, about 30 seconds went by and Tom and Mark are telling dick jokes. It's like, 'Look, you dickheads didn't talk to each other for six years and now everything's completely fine.' You realise how petty some of the shit was we were all fighting over.

Ex-Weezer Bassist Mikey Welsh Dies Aged 40

Mikey Welsh plays bass
Mikey Welsh, 40, was found dead in a Chicago hotel room. He was found unresponsive on his hotel room floor at after failing to check out of his hotel room at 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Hotel staff checked the room and found him, Kubiak said. He was staying at the Raffaello Hotel on the 200 block of East Delaware Place. A spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said Welsh was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:50 p.m.

"As many of you may have heard, Mikey Welsh has passed away," read a note posted to the group's "Weezerpedia" page. "The news was announced via his official Facebook page earlier in the evening. Understanding that many here are grieving, Weezerpedia has created a digital eulogy page for Mikey Welsh where fans can post stories, pictures, or thoughts. R.I.P. Mikey."

Welsh was born April 20, 1971 in Syracuse, New York. He started off as a Boston-area musician, playing in bands such as Heretix, Chevy Heston, Jocobono, Left Nut, and Slower. He was also Juliana Hatfield's touring bassist. In 1997 he joined the first incarnation of The Rivers Cuomo Band, the side-project of Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo.

He joined Weezer following the departure of Matt Sharp in 1998. During Weezer's hiatus he played with Verbena and the first incarnation of Patrick Wilson's band The Special Goodness. He wrote a large number of bass lines in this period, recorded them and sent them to Rivers Cuomo for writing inspiration., although Cuomo never used any of them. Instead, he contributed four of these to Juliana Hatfield's 2000 album Juliana's Pony: Total System Failure. Welsh was given a co-writing credit for four songs.

Mikey Welsh left Weezer in 2001 for reasons that were left unclear to the public for several years after it happened. It was eventually revealed that he did in fact have a nervous breakdown due to drug use, undiagnosed mental conditions, and the constant wear of touring. The combination of these factors ultimately led Welsh to attempt suicide via drug overdose. He was checked in to a psychiatric hospital sometime during August 2001. Source: www.chicagotribune.com
